Easy $$ for Your Used CDs

4 06 2008

$5.00 for Gin & JuiceAs I’m unemployed and scrounging around for money, I decided to sell my CDs. Who needs them right? I can just download all my CDs to iTunes. So the last time my mom came to visit, I had her bring me my teenage CD collection.

The best (and easiest) place to do sell your CDs is SecondSpin.com. Why is it better than having a garage sale or bringing your CDs down to Warehouse (I don’t know if they even have those stores anymore) is that you can sell them from home. You just type in the artist/album and they tell you how much they’ll buy it for. You send them all your CDs and in 2 weeks they send you a check. That’s right, they send you CASH and not something stupid like store credit.

So far, I’ve earned $5.00 for Snoop Dogg’s Doggy Style, $0.25 for Jordan Knight (at least they’re buying it!) and with my other 20 CDs I’ll be getting $75! Seriously pull out your old CDs and see what you can get.

TIP: If you’re inputing a lot of CDs make sure to do it all in one sitting. I thought it would keep a record of the CDs in my cart so I closed my browser. When went back to the website the cart was empty.

Suze Orman is my new best friend.

Young, Fabulous & Broke - Suze OrmanI’ve been reading Suze Orman’s The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke (which you should read too, but get it from your local library don’t buy it) and I signed up today for my customized YF&B action plan. If you want to get started on the plan and don’t have the book now go to www.suzeorman.com and click on “YF&B”. Enter the Access Code “YF&B”. There’s a few questions to answer about your personal finance situation and then from there (and don’t ask me how) she develops an Action Plan for your finances. Besides that there are a bunch of great resources such as links to credit counselor, how to write a will, etc. It seriously helps just to take some steps to figuring out to do. Honestly, I had some not so good credit score news and signing up for this service made me feel A LOT better.

The Only Diet You’ll Ever Need

If you need a good kick in the butt to get your personal finances in order start here: http://www.oprah.com/money/debtdiet/money_debtdiet_main.jhtml

Oprah’s Debt Diet is like Cliff Notes for all those financial help books you’ve been meaning to read. She teams up with 3 of the top financial advisers and has created an 8-Step Guide that will walk you through:

1.) Figuring out much debt you really have.

2.) Really tracking your spending and finding “extra” money

3.) Prioritizing which credit cards to pay down first ( my favorite!)

4.) Looking at expenses and creating a realistic budget

5.) Understanding and raising your credit score

Oprah

Ms. Winfrey thinks that you will tackle a step a week but, honestly, I did it in a little over 2 hours. Kinda like my dating style, I wanted to know everything right away rather than pacing out. Take however long you want with it but do finish it.
